Description
Cucamelons take a while to germinate and grow slowly in the first few weeks. Once the plant starts to climb it fast gains momentum and grows into a wonderful thick hedge providing you with these little gems for a full season and well into autumn. It is a perennial and will grow back the following season, developing tubers in the ground. The larger the tubers develop the faster and bigger the plant will grow back. You can germinate your seeds in seed trays filled with good compost. Keep them warm and moist and transplant them in rich organic soil when they are 5cm high. To sow directly in the soil, prepare your beds with organic compost. Cucamelons are vine crops, and will need to be grown on a trellis.

They have an awesome fresh cucumber flavour with a hint of lime and are best eaten when crisp and light green in colour. Delicious as a snack on their own and make a great addition to salads…if they ever even make it to the kitchen! A very pretty vine with its heart shaped leaves, they make wonderful container plants grown up a trellis.
